Written by Scott Canoni Created on 10/7/2007 During heavy traffic times like the 9am or 5pm commuting times, both north bound and south bound traffic are allowed to stop and make a left crossing over 2 lanes of opposing traffic. This is dangerous for 2 reasons. First, rear end accidents occur due to a stopped car on a 50mph highway. Second, the car has to travel across 2 lanes of opposing traffic to make a left. Possible solutions: Left only arrow. No left during heavy traffic times. No left at all, detour to nearby side streets.
